Melatonin is the biogenic amine which is secreted from the pineal gland which is a small endocrine gland located in the center of the brain outside the blood brain barrier This product or medication is used for the treatment of insomnia and for sleep work problem and it is also help in the improvement of the immune system.

Mechanism of Action:

It works by binding with the melatonin receptor type 1A which then acts on adenylate cyclase which further inhibits the activity of the cAMP and inhibit transduction process It potentiates the release of the arachidonic acid and increases the activity of the phospholipase C or by binding with its receptor it shows various effects.

Pharmacokinetics:

Absorption- It is widely absorbed.
Metabolism- It undergoes glucuronidation conjugation.
Excretion- It is excreted unchanged in the urine .
